National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are Institutes of National Importance and are Centrally Funded Technical Institutes. The NIMCET is NIT MCA Common Entrance Test, a National Level Test conducted by NITs for admission in to their MCA programme. The admission to the MCA programme in to NITs at Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Calicut, Durgapur, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Raipur, Surathkal, Tiruchirappalli and Warangal based on the Rank obtained in NIMCET. The Curriculum and Syllabi of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme offered by NITs are designed considering the needs of different Information Technology firms in India and abroad. MCA graduates have high potential for jobs in IT Sector.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO APPEAR FOR NIMCET
Indian Nationals securing at least 60% marks in aggregate or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point scale (55% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale in case of SC, ST) in
(i) BSc / BSc (Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum three years full-time*; OR
(ii) B E / B Tech or equivalent ;
from a recognized University are eligible to appear for NIMCET

- Candidates who are appearing for final year/semester of BSc / BSc(Hons) / BCA / BIT of minimum 3 years or BE/B Tech in the current academic year are also eligible to apply for NIMCET. Such candidates shall have to furnish the proof (in the form of a certificate issued by the head of institution where the candidate has studied- refer Annexure IV for proforma) that he/she is appearing for the examinations during the current academic year and can submit the proof of fulfilling the eligibility criteria of NIMCET preferably at the time of Counseling/Admission but not later than September, failing which their admissions liable to be cancelled by the respective NITs. NIMCET will not reserve a seat to a candidate due to any reason claimed for not fulfilling the eligibility criteria including the delay in publishing the results by the concerned University/institute OR.
- Students who have completed/completing degree BSc / BSc(Hons)/BCA/ BIT of 3 years from Open Universities are also eligible to apply provided their programme is approved by UGC /AICTE and Distance Education Council (DEC) of Govt. of India.using this method of calculation alone be considered by NIMCET for deciding eligibility.
- The percentages of marks in qualifying degree are to be calculated on the basis of marks obtained in all the subjects studied in all the years including languages, optional and additional subjects studied, if any. The aggregate of all the subjects in all the years computed using this method of calculation alone be considered by NIMCET for deciding eligibility.
MODE OF EXAMINATION
The NIMCET examination will be for a duration of two and a half hours and consists of 120 multiple choice questions with four choices for each question. Each correctly answered question carries FOUR marks and each wrongly answered question invites NEGATIVE ONE mark. The candidates have to mark the responses in the OMR sheets supplied at the time of examination. Candidates have to bring their own HB pencil, eraser and ball point pen. Calculators, mobile phones or any other materials will not be allowed in the examination hall.

Set Theory: Concept of sets – Union, Intersection, Cardinality, Elementary counting; permutations and combinations.
Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions.
Algebra: Fundamental operations in algebra, expansions, factorization, simultaneous linear / quadraticequations, indices, logarithms, arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices.
Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equation of a line, and intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola.
Calculus: Limit of functions, continuous function, differentiation of function, tangents and normals,simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of functions by parts, by substitution and by partialfraction, definite integrals, applications of definite integrals to areas.
Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics.

ADMISSION METHODOLOGY
NIMCET application is a comprehensive application form for the Entrance Examination and for admission to MCA at any of the NITs offering MCA programme. Candidates need not apply to each NITs separately for admission. The admission to MCA programme in all the 9 participating NITs will be through a Single Window Centralized Counseling/Seat Allotment at respective NITs based on NIMCET Rank as well as their choices mentioned in the Application Form, tentatively in JUNE/JULY . Exact details in this regard will be intimated in due course to all eligible candidates for Counseling. Please note that there is no inter NIT transfer of candidates after being admitted into any of the NITs. Candidates once allotted a seat in any particular NIT will have to take admission at that NIT ONLY. The general eligibility to write NIMCET is the same for all NITs. Admission criteria and fees structure may differ in some NITs.
No separate Score Card will be sent to the candidates. The list of candidates called for Counseling/Seat Allotment based on NIMCET rank will be published in the websites of all the participating NITs offering MCA Programme.
